For more information about the popular science books I have written, see the BOOKS page.
I also write a popular blog, which is not just about astronomy or physics. You will also find posts about music, sport (especially Welsh rugby!), politics, current affairs and even poetry. For more information, see the BLOG page.
I frequently talk on TV and radio. For the latest on my media appearances, go to the MEDIA page.
I am an astronomer (actually 'astrophysicist') working at Cardiff University in Wales.
I studied physics at Imperial College London, graduating with first class honours, before gaining my PhD in astrophysics from Cardiff University. I have taught at the University of Toledo in the USA, at Swarthmore College and done post-doctoral research at the University of Chicago’s Yerkes Observatory,
‘the birthplace of modern astrophysics’. I am currently a research
fellow at Cardiff University with a particular interest in infrared
astronomy. I have authored numerous academic papers as well as articles
in popular science, and I speak regularly at conferences and am a
frequent contributor to the BBC on physics and astronomy.
